The trees are two prostrata junipers that Ted Matson originally bought
at Descanso show sale in the mid-1980's, that were owned by Jim Everman.
Ted planted them in separate pots for a while, but didn't like them
as individual trees. Then, around 1992-93, Ted saw them sitting near
each other on his bench and realized that they'd look good together,
but with crossing trunks. He took the trees to John Naka and told
him his idea, which John wholeheartedly agreed with, saying that it
would be a controversial tree. The two tree planting was first shown
at the 40th California Bonsai Society Convention six years ago. It
was shown again at the 45th CBS Convention this past year. Also at
the Descanso Bonsai Society and the Nampukai shows. Ted doesn't know
how old the trees are. The planting is 47" tall.
